2016: DUDLEY MAN WHO PUSHED HIS EX-PARTNER FROM A SECOND FLOOR WINDOW JAILED FOR 24 YEARS
A Dudley man who pushed his ex-partner from a second floor window has been jailed for 24 years.Marlon Bills lured the 43-year-old woman to his flat in Himley Road in December last year, but a row soon erupted and, after threatening her with a knife, he backed her towards the bathroom window and pushed her through.
As she tried to cling to the windowsill, Bills peeled her fingers from it one by one until she dropped 16 feet to the floor.
He then calmly closed the window above as she dragged herself to the edge of the property to call for help.
Emergency services arrived within minutes, and a violent struggle ensued after two police officers forced entry to the flat as Bills tried to stab them with a knife.
Detective Sergeant Gagy Bedi, from the force’s Public Protection Unit, stated that Bills has a history of domestic violence and expressed relief that the court imposed a severe sentence.
The victim suffered life-changing injuries, including a broken spine and ankle, and continues to experience problems.
Bills, aged 44, was found guilty of wounding and two counts of attempted wounding against officers after a week-long trial.
At Birmingham Crown Court, he was sentenced to at least two-thirds of his 24-year sentence before parole eligibility and was ordered to pay his victim £10,000 in compensation within six months.
The judge commended the bravery of the officers involved.
Detective Bedi urged anyone suffering domestic abuse to seek help promptly.
