NURSERY THREATENING MAN SENTENCED TO COMMUNITY ORDER

A man called schoolchildren as young as two terrorists and threatened to kill them, a court heard.

Staff at the Ravensthorpe Community Centre nursery were forced to rush the children inside after David Silkstone threw things at them.

At one point the 32-year-old held a hacksaw and threatened to chop the children's heads off.

He pleaded guilty to threatening behaviour when he appeared before Kirklees magistrates on Wednesday, April 22.

Silkstone’s rantings were witnessed by children and staff at the nursery based at the centre off Myrtle Road.

Children aged between two and four were playing in the rear yard, behind which was fencing belonging to the gardens of some flats.

A member of staff heard Silkstone shouting aggressively as he stood next to the fence.

He picked up a piece of wire mesh fencing and threw it into the nursery grounds.

Andy Wills, prosecuting, said: “He was shouting and throwing objects towards the nursery.

He was heard to say: ‘You’re all f*****g terrorists - I’m going to kill you’.

This seemed to be directed towards the staff and children.

The defendant was seen with a hacksaw in his hand and he imitated that he was going to chop people’s heads off.

The Huddersfield court heard that staff were frightened for the safety and shouted at the children to go inside.

Jonathan Slawinski, mitigating, explained that Silkstone had mental health issues and heard voices in his head that day.

Magistrates sentenced Silkstone, of Myrtle Road, to a 12-month community order.

This includes up to 50 days of activities as directed by probation staff.

He must also pay £85 costs and £60 victim surcharge.
