DEWSBURY MAN SENTENCED FOR THREATENING AND ASSAULTING HIS EX
A man identified as Mark Winrow was involved in a serious domestic assault at his ex-partner's Dewsbury home.
According to court reports, Winrow, who was intoxicated, threw a hot drink at the victim, then seized her by the neck and threatened to kill her in her sleep.
The incident occurred while the victim was seated in her living room on February 24, and Winrow unexpectedly entered the premises.
Witnesses saw him pour a hot beverage over her, shout and swear at her, and push her down the steps as she attempted to escape.
He then grabbed her around the throat, squeezing tightly enough to impede her breathing.
The victim managed to break free and fled towards nearby fields, where she was assisted by a witness who called the police.
After officers arrived and left, Winrow continued to threaten her via phone with a recorded message stating: 'I've got your key.
I'm going to kill you in your sleep.' Winrow, of School Lane in Dewsbury, had pleaded not guilty but changed his plea to guilty on the day of his trial.
He has 14 convictions for 21 offenses, including assault.
Magistrates sentenced him to a 12-month community order with six months of alcohol treatment and 25 rehabilitation activity days, as an alternative to custody.
He is also required to pay court costs and a victim surcharge, and a restraining order bans him from contacting the victim or visiting her home for two years.
