STALKER JAILED FOR MAKING THREATS TO HIS FORMER PARTNER DESPITE BEING ON RESTRAINING ORDER
Despite an active restraining order, Mark Oswell continued to harass his ex-partner Alexandra Jones through a series of threatening and invasive actions. He repeatedly texted her and visited her home in Oakenholt, even once threatening to “blow the door down” when she was not home and her young son was alone.
Judge Rhys Rowlands commented that Oswell's behavior was “extremely disturbing” and indicated a disregard for court orders.
The judge highlighted that Jones described Oswell as “paranoid and controlling,” with a criminal history that includes five previous breaches of restraining orders, as well as convictions for violence, robbery, and harassment.
According to prosecutor Ffion Tomos at Mold Crown Court, Oswell violated the restraining order issued in February 2016 after his harassment convictions from 2016.
While in prison, he sent her a letter, and after his release in February 2017, he reconnected with her.
Their relationship temporarily resumed until December when Jones informed him via text that it was over.
Oswell refused to accept the breakup and continued to contact Jones, stalking her through texts and physical visits through February and March of this year.
He made threatening demands and sent messages like “vroom, vroom”, causing Jones to fear for her vehicle's safety.
He also sent her a photo of her house with her car outside, escalating her fears of harm.
Oswell was observed walking in her vicinity, entering her garden without permission, and loitering outside a neighbor's property.
He reacted aggressively when asked to leave, shouting and appearing to “foam at the mouth.” Jones discarded some of Oswell's clothing in trash bags, but he intensified his intimidation by damaging her car — puncturing two tires and scratching “slut” into the paint.
A friend of Oswell warned police that he possessed a sword and acid, threatening to kill anyone she was with.
He later approached her address, shouting accusations of her sharing intimate images via Snapchat.
Despite her pleas to stop, Oswell claimed to have acid and threatened to harm any man who came near her.
On another occasion, with her son home alone, he shouted that he would "blow down the door" if she did not come out to see him.
Following her call to the police, Oswell fled on his bike, but later encountered her again at the train station, where he attempted to approach her on his bike, only to be deterred by her telling him she would contact him later.
He was arrested on April 14, and he told officers that Jones had “begged him” to reunite and accused her of “mind games.” In her victim statement, Ms.
Jones said the harassment had left her emotionally scarred, constantly looking over her shoulder, and feeling used and abused during their relationship.
Oswell, aged 38 and from Rhyl, pleaded guilty to two breaches of a restraining order and one count of stalking.
He has a lengthy criminal record with 23 convictions for 48 offenses, including previous harassment cases against Ms.
Jones and multiple restraining order violations.
Defense lawyer Anna Price mentioned Oswell's mental health struggles and that he was seeking a schizophrenia diagnosis, adding that some of his behavior was influenced by his belief that reconciliation was possible.
