MARK HEARN FROM WALKER SENTENCED FOR CHILD INDECENT IMAGES AND EXTREME PORNOGRAPHY
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Walker, a man named Mark Hearn, aged 49, has been sentenced to prison after authorities uncovered a significant collection of illegal and highly disturbing material in his home. The police investigation was initiated in January of the previous year when officers raided Hearn’s residence on Welbeck Road following credible intelligence indicating that child abuse images, classified as Category A, were being uploaded from that address onto the internet.During the search, law enforcement officials discovered an alarming cache of digital content. The evidence included 172 images and 30 videos classified as Category A, which is the most severe classification for child abuse material. Additionally, they found 129 images and one video categorized as Category B, along with 335 images and five videos labeled as Category C. Among these, there were also five videos depicting extreme pornography involving sexual acts between humans and animals, a particularly heinous aspect of the case.
The court proceedings revealed that these offences spanned over a decade, indicating a long-standing pattern of illegal activity. Mark Hearn was charged with multiple counts, including three of making indecent images of children and one of possessing extreme pornography. He ultimately pleaded guilty to these charges, although he claimed to police that he had no sexual interest in the images he possessed. However, the presiding judge, Ms. Recorder Jo Kidd, dismissed this explanation as unconvincing, stating that “that explanation bears no scrutiny whatsoever.”
Despite pleas from Hearn’s legal representative that his chronic illness rendered him a “very vulnerable” individual who might be at risk if imprisoned, the court sentenced him to a year behind bars. The prosecution, led by David Crook, emphasized that Hearn’s actions demonstrated a clear intent to preserve and store the illicit images, as he had copied them onto a disk for safekeeping. Mr. Crook also pointed out that Hearn had a prior conviction for theft in 2015, which resulted in a 10-month prison sentence.
At the time of sentencing, Hearn was residing on Cleadon Street in Walker. The court also ordered him to sign the sex offenders register for a period of ten years and imposed a sexual harm prevention order for five years, reflecting the seriousness of his crimes and the potential risk to the community. Hearn showed no visible emotion as he was led away to serve his sentence, leaving many in Walker to grapple with the disturbing details of this case.
