WALKER MAN JAILED FOR BRUTAL ASSAULT AND DAMAGE ON GIRLFRIEND
A Newcastle man named Connor Black, aged 29, carried out a violent assault on his girlfriend before damaging her personal belongings with a hammer.The incident occurred during a tumultuous relationship marked by violence.
Black repeatedly punched the woman, during which he caused her to be briefly knocked unconscious before fleeing the scene.
The court heard that Black had been in an on-off relationship characterized by violence, and on January 10, he contacted the victim urging her to return home, which she did despite her fear.
Upon her return, Black, armed with a wooden pole, dragged her into the house and assaulted her physically by hitting her body and face, and he continued to punch her even as she begged him to stop.
During the attack, he used a hammer to smash several of her belongings, including a TV, a bedside table, and a lamp, causing around £850 worth of damage.
The victim was left with extensive bruising and believed Black had the capacity to kill her, stating she now fears him "petrified".
The court revealed that Black has 14 previous convictions for 24 offences, mostly related to dishonesty.
Black pleaded guilty to criminal damage and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and on sentencing, Judge Mallett jailed him for 21 months and issued a six-year restraining order against him.
Black attended court via link from HMP Durham and had shown some remorse, taking part in a painting and decorating course while in prison.
