INVERNESS PAEDOPHILE MARK HANDLIN SHARES HUNDREDS OF CHILD ABUSE IMAGES AND VIDEOS ONLINE
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Inverness, a 54-year-old man named Mark Handlin has admitted to possessing nearly 900 images and videos depicting child sexual abuse, as well as distributing over 400 of these illicit materials through various internet chatrooms. The revelations came to light during a court hearing at Inverness Sheriff Court, where Handlin pleaded guilty to all charges related to his online activities.
According to court records, the offenses took place between August 7, 2014, and February 29 of the following year.
Handlin, who resides on Telford Road in Inverness, was found to have engaged in the possession and distribution of indecent images of children from his home address during this period.
The case was brought to the court’s attention after police conducted a search of his residence based on intelligence they had received, leading to the seizure of three electronic devices.
At approximately 9:30 a.m.
on February 29 last year, law enforcement officers entered Handlin’s home and confiscated a white mobile phone, a black mobile phone, and a tablet device.
The investigation revealed that the black mobile phone contained three email accounts and was used by Handlin to share images of children aged between one and 16 years old via Messenger applications.
The police found a total of 186 images classified as Category A, indicating the most severe type of abuse, along with 185 images in Category B and 490 images in Category C, which are considered less severe but still highly disturbing.
Additionally, there were 19 videos depicting child abuse across all three categories.
The white mobile phone also played a significant role in Handlin’s illegal activities.
It was discovered that he had shared and distributed indecent images and videos from this device between July 29, 2015, and February 29, 2016, again using Messenger apps.
On this device, authorities found 145 images in Category A, 125 in Category B, and 125 in Category C.
Furthermore, a total of 83 videos were recorded and shared through these channels.
The sharing of these illicit materials was facilitated via an online platform known as Dropbox, which provided a link to a collection of images that was circulated through internet chatrooms, further enabling the distribution of child exploitation content.
Handlin’s initial court appearance occurred on March 2 of the previous year, when he was brought before Inverness Sheriff Court in connection with the charges.
At that time, he did not enter a plea and was subsequently remanded for further examination.
He was later released on bail pending the ongoing investigation.
The court has deferred sentencing until February 9, to allow for the preparation of a comprehensive background report.
In addition, Sheriff Margaret Neilson ordered that Handlin be placed on the sex offenders register, reflecting the seriousness of his crimes and the ongoing concern for community safety.
