A 26-year-old man, Mark Davis of Lower Road, Ledbury, was jailed for six months after attacking a 63-year-old man in his home.
Davis, who had been drinking, burst into the victim's house in Queen's Court on July 13 at around 11:30 pm, shouting abuse.
He punched the victim in the face, causing him to lose consciousness, then struck him again in front of his disabled wife.
The victim suffered jaw injuries and a badly cut lip requiring stitches.
Davis admitted assault causing actual bodily harm, and was sentenced to six months in prison.
The court heard he was angry over false rumours that he had beaten his pregnant partner, which he believed were spread by the neighbours.
Davis has a prior police record for battery and abusive behaviour.
The judge described the attack as a 'frightening and serious' incident committed in a moment of madness, fueled by alcohol, and noted there was no evidence that Mr Limb spread any rumours about Davis.
