2021: GRANDFATHER JAILED AFTER SENDING THREATS TO FAMILY
A grandfather previously jailed for harassing members of his estranged family has been sent to prison again after sending threatening messages to them on social media.
At Gloucester Crown Court on Wednesday (December 15), Sean Dougall, 65, of Johnstone Close, Staunton, nr Ledbury, pleaded guilty to breaching an indefinite restraining order issued in November 2010, which prohibited him from contacting certain family members.
He violated this order between July 30, 2021, and September 2, 2021, by sending unwanted social media messages to his family.
Dougall has a history of 12 similar breaches.
The court heard that he contacted two family members during a little over a month period, posting offensive messages on their social media business pages, which were promptly removed and blocked.
He then created two Facebook profiles under fake names to contact them again, and made threatening social media posts claiming to be a military strategist and warning of violence if the restraining order was not canceled.
The messages significantly impacted the family’s businesses and mental health.
The judge, Recorder Malcolm Gibney, noted that Dougall continues to cause harm to his female family members.
His defense highlighted mental health issues, medication, and recent improvement.
The court sentenced him to two years and seven months in prison, with the restraining orders remaining in place indefinitely.
