2022: NEWENT MAN NATHAN BALDWIN JAILED AFTER DRUNKEN KNIFE THREATS AND ASSAULTS
A Newent man has been jailed for stalking and assaulting a woman, drunkenly threatening her with a knife and assaulting a police constable.
Nathan Baldwin of Mayhill View pleaded guilty at Cheltenham Magistrates Court to stalking the woman between April 7 and June 16 this year in Stroud, causing her to fear at least twice that violence would be used against her.
As part of the stalking he had left a voicemail, sent texts, made calls, watched the house and contacted her friends.
Baldwin, aged 29, also admitted assaulting the woman in Stroud between April 7-10 this year and assaulting PC James McCullock by beating in Stroud on April 24.
The offences against the woman included threatening her seriously with a knife while intoxicated, with children present, and over a period of time making substantial threats.
The court ordered Baldwin to serve 18 weeks in jail for the three offences and pay a victim surcharge of £128.
They stated the offences warranted imprisonment because Baldwin's intoxicated actions included threats and stalking over a prolonged period.
The assault on PC McCullock was also deemed serious, as Baldwin was intoxicated and pushed an officer doing his job.
