PRESTON ROMANIAN GANG JAILED FOR HUMAN TRAFFICKING AND RAPE

Three men have been sentenced for their involvement in a disturbing case where two Romanian women were forced into prostitution and raped.

Marius Petre, aged 27, and Adrian Matei, aged 34, received 20-year prison sentences for two counts of rape, causing prostitution for financial gain, and human trafficking.

Ionut Ion, aged 35, was sentenced to 13 years for running a brothel used for prostitution and committing two counts of rape.

All three defendants, originating from Romania, were convicted at Preston Crown Court in February.

According to reports, Lancashire Police identified the women, aged 18, after receiving a tip that there might be underage girls at a brothel on Longworth Street.

The officers raided the premises in July and found the women, who had been in the UK for just about two weeks after being brought from Romania by Petre and Matei under false promises of work as hotel maids.

Instead, they were taken to the brothel and coerced into performing sexual acts on clients.

The women were threatened with violence against themselves and their families to ensure compliance.

The men involved must serve a minimum of five years each.

The case highlights the serious issue of human trafficking and exploitation.
