Marie Metcalfe, 41 years old, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the stabbing death of her older sister, Laura Metcalfe, aged 44, on the evening of Good Friday, 2 April, in Brougham Terrace, Hartlepool.
Laura was taken to hospital after the attack but died from her injuries days later.

The court set a minimum term of 18 years before she can apply for parole.
Detective Chief Inspector Simone Bennett of Cleveland Police emphasized the severe emotional toll of this crime, noting its lasting impact on the family and local community.
The victim’s family shared their sorrow, saying, “Losing Laura, who was a beloved mother, sister, daughter, and friend, has shattered our family irreparably.
We will forever remember her and miss her dearly.” They also pointed out that Marie had planned the attack, which led to this irreversible tragedy.
