BIRMINGHAM DOG HANDLER BANNED AFTER HORRENDOUS ANIMAL ABUSE
A security dog handler who allowed his dog to suffer with a prong collar embedded in his neck has been banned from keeping animals for eight years.Marghani Albadawi, 38, of Gerrard Close, Birmingham, pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to his German Shepherd dog, Mac, by applying a prong collar tightly around its neck.
The dog was found with a collar completely embedded all the way around, covered in pus, and with severe injuries.
The vet had to sedate Mac and use bolt cutters to remove the collar.
Albadawi was sentenced on October 3 at Birmingham Magistrates Court to an eight-year ban from keeping animals (which he cannot appeal for four years), a 12-week suspended custody sentence, 100 hours of unpaid work, plus costs of £400 and a £154 victim surcharge.
Mac recovered from the injuries but was found to have severe untreated hip dysplasia, which led to his euthanasia.
Inspector Patrick Bailey of the RSPCA described Mac’s injuries as horrendous and expressed disappointment in Albadawi's failure to notice the suffering.
