QUEDGELEY PAEDOPHILE MARCUS TURNER CAUGHT SHARING CHILD ABUSE IMAGES ON TWITTER
In December 2016, Marcus Turner, a 24-year-old resident of Bristol Road in Quedgeley, found himself at the centre of a serious criminal investigation after authorities uncovered disturbing evidence linked to his online activities. Turner was apprehended following a police operation that was initiated after reports surfaced regarding his Twitter account, which was used to share highly offensive and illegal images involving child sexual abuse.According to court proceedings, Turner had been actively tweeting and messaging with others, using crude sexual language and sharing graphic images. The material found on his computers included some of the most severe types of child abuse imagery, depicting young children being raped. These images and videos were linked to offences committed between March 2015 and May of the current year, highlighting a prolonged period of offending.
During the investigation, police seized Turner's devices and discovered a horrifying collection of illegal content. Among the most disturbing were seven Category A videos, which are classified as the most severe, showing victims aged between 9 and 16 being subjected to sexual assault. These videos alone amounted to 65 minutes of footage. Additionally, investigators found two still images categorized as Category B, depicting boys aged 7 to 12 engaged in sexual touching. The search also uncovered 231 images classified as Category C, which involved children in various stages of sexual exploitation.
Prosecutor Julian Kesner detailed the extent of the material, noting that Turner was communicating with other individuals—presumably men—who shared his disturbing interests. One message from Turner read, “Yeah, she’s hot,” accompanied by pictures, while another message stated, “Couple of pics for you. Let me know if you want to trade.” These exchanges underscored the extent of his involvement in the online child exploitation community.
Turner was charged with multiple offences, including three counts of making indecent images of children, one count of distributing such images, and one count of possessing extreme pornography involving animals. He admitted to all charges during the court hearing.
Judge Robert Linford presided over the case and, after reviewing the evidence and considering Turner's cooperation with authorities, decided on a relatively lenient sentence. Turner was handed a three-year community order, which includes a 15-day rehabilitation activity requirement and mandatory attendance at an internet sex offender programme. Furthermore, he was fined £200, required to register as a sex offender for five years, and was subject to a five-year sexual harm prevention order.
In his remarks, Judge Linford emphasized the gravity of the crimes, stating, “As a result of reports to the police about concerns regarding your Twitter account, they raided you and seized your computers. Found on them was material depicting the sexual abuse of children. You need to understand that these were real little boys and girls who were being raped. Somewhere, in some part of the world, a child was being raped and you were getting your kicks out of it. This material is disgusting.”
The judge acknowledged that Turner had cooperated with law enforcement and was receiving specialist counselling, but warned that he had come very close to a custodial sentence. The case highlights the ongoing efforts of authorities to combat online child exploitation and the importance of vigilance in monitoring social media platforms for such illegal activities.
