A 25-year-old man who committed a rape in Knutsford has received a 17-year prison sentence.Marcell Koekemoer, currently held at HMP Bristol but formerly residing in Stretford, was convicted and sentenced on Tuesday, 30 April.
He was found guilty of two counts of rape for incidents that occurred in relation to the case, following a trial at Bristol Crown Court.
The police in Cheshire first became involved in August 2022 after the victim reported online that she had been raped by Koekemoer.
According to her account, Koekemoer had asked to stay at her home in Knutsford two days prior, after being locked out of his residence.
She permitted him to stay on the condition he slept on her sofa.
However, in the early hours, Koekemoer entered her bedroom and proceeded to commit the first rape.
The next morning, she asked him to leave, but he assaulted her again.
Koekemoer was taken into custody in August 2022 and was questioned about the allegations, which he denied.
He was released on conditional bail pending further investigation.
During his time on bail, Koekemoer committed additional offences in the Avon and Somerset area.
Following a joint investigation, authorities charged him in October 2023.
In addition to his prison term, Koekemoer is under an indefinite restraining order and is required to register as a sex offender for life.
