EX CREDIT SUISSE BANKER RECEIVES SUSPENDED JAIL SENTENCE FOR DOMESTIC ASSAULT
A former Credit Suisse banker named Marc Grosjean, aged 43, has been convicted of assault following an incident where he beat his wife, Artemis Berberi, in their London home.
The assault was triggered after Grosjean snooped through her Sat-Nav and discovered she was having an affair.
According to reports, Grosjean punched Artemis in the face and tried to tear her wedding ring off during a struggle witnessed by their young son at their Paddington residence.
Westminster Magistrates Court heard that Grosjean had accessed Ms Berberi's car Sat-Nav and mobile phone to confirm his suspicions, which led to his violent outburst.
His defense argued that Grosjean had already suffered substantial punishment and that setting up his own business was an enormous toll on him.
The court sentenced Grosjean to eight weeks in jail, suspended for two years, and ordered him to perform 200 hours of unpaid work on each of the two offences.
Additionally, he was required to attend a domestic abuse intervention program, pay £890 in costs and a victim surcharge, and was subject to a restraining order preventing contact with Ms Berberi.
Grosjean is reportedly planning to appeal his conviction.
The judge emphasized that Grosjean's behavior was shocking, noting that he used his hand to hit his partner, and highlighted that violence is never an acceptable response to frustration.
The court acknowledged the trauma experienced by their son, who was present during the incident, and explained that Grosjean's incarceration might have lasting effects on him.
Grosjean was convicted of one count of assault by beating and one count of common assault.
