BELGIAN CHILD RAPIST MARC DUTROUX INVESTIGATED IN IRELAND

POLICE investigating the child abduction, rape, and murder scandals that have rocked Belgium for the past nine months are to visit Ireland to interview an Irish couple who gave a lift to their chief suspect in Belgium.

Convicted child rapist Marc Dutroux and accomplice Michel Lelievre abducted and drugged teenagers An Marchal and Eefje Lambrecks in August 1995 as they were hitching back to their holiday lodgings in Ostend.

But their car broke down and Dutroux hitched a lift with the Irish couple back to his home to pick up another.

Lelievre noted the Irish couple's car registration and has given it to police.

Dutroux has been charged with murder.
