DUNDEE MOTHER MURDERER CONVICTED OF CHILD RAPE IN IRELAND
Mary McLaren’s killer has been convicted of historical sexual abuse offences against a young child.
Patrick Rae, serving a life sentence for the brutal murder of the Dundee mother-of-three, will serve another prison term alongside the minimum 20 years imposed after he raped and murdered tragic Mary in the city in February 2010.
He met his 34-year-old victim in Fat Sam’s nightclub in the city and attacked her with a knife, then strangled her and buried her body in undergrowth.
Rae, 56, was controversially transferred to a prison in his native Ireland in 2014 to serve out his sentence so he could be nearer his family.
He has now appeared in court in his homeland and been found guilty of raping and sexually assaulting a girl almost 40 years ago.
The offences took place between 1986 and 1989 in Longford, when the victim was aged between five and seven and Rae was between 16 and 19.
The judge, Mr Justice Paul McDermott, imposed a 12-year prison sentence on Rae, which will run alongside his life sentence.
He was also banned from contacting the victim for life and can have no contact with any child unless under the supervision of another adult.
The judge ordered Rae, who is being held at Midlands Prison in County Laois, should remain under supervision for the rest of his life if he is ever released.
