MALCOLM BOGAERT
Malcolm Bogaert reached out to the woman from an unknown phone number, claiming to be a police officer and insisting she come in for questioning.
At Newcastle Crown Court, it was revealed that once the woman realized she had been tricked by Bogaert, he responded by sending her numerous abusive messages.
The court heard that Bogaert had inundated the woman with so many emails and messages that she lost track of them, despite her having obtained a protection order against him.
Prosecutor Estelle Chambers stated, "He contacted her pretending to be a police officer and sent messages related to that.
He told her she needed to attend for questioning." Ms.
Chambers also explained, "When she understood it was him, he sent a large number of abusive messages." Bogaert, aged 24 and residing on Eastern Lane, Berwick, Northumberland, was found guilty of harassment and breaching a non-molestation order following a trial.
He also pleaded guilty to three separate charges of assault on emergency workers, which occurred during a hospital visit when he lashed out at police, and to common assault and false imprisonment against a different woman—his former partner—whom he threw a bottle at, causing no injuries, and prevented from leaving his house.
Both women experienced significant distress due to his conduct, the court was told.
Judge Robert Adams sentenced Bogaert to 30 months in prison.
His defense lawyer, Jessica Slaughter, highlighted his troubled childhood and background during the sentencing.
