DRUG ADDICT SEX ATTACKER HAS HIS JAIL SENTENCE CUT
A 22-year-old man involved in kidnapping and raping a prostitute amid a dispute over money has had his prison sentence shortened by two years, according to the London Criminal Appeal Court. The court also reduced the sentence of his accomplice, a fellow prostitute, by 21 months.
Macksood Alam, from Rowena Street in Farnworth, was originally sentenced to 10 years in December at Bolton Crown Court after being convicted of false imprisonment, controlling a prostitute for profit, rape, and blackmail.
His initial sentence was set to follow a period of 491 days he had already served from a previous conviction.
Alam was also subject to an extended sentence of 10 years, allowing for potential recall if he misbehaves during that time.
The Court of Appeal later adjusted his sentence to eight years, with the extended term lowered to five years.
The victim was abducted from her home, forced into a vehicle, taken on a drive to find a client, and subjected to violence and threats after being compelled to perform a sexual act on Alam.
The court pointed out that some of Alam’s sentences were made concurrent, which influenced the overall reduction.
While noting that Alam did not plead guilty, the judge acknowledged some mitigating factors, including it being his first custodial sentence and his actions being influenced by his accomplice.
The accomplice, Nichola Jane Watson, aged 30 from Cherry Tree Avenue in Farnworth, received a six-year prison sentence with an additional two-year extended term for blackmail, robbery, false imprisonment, and controlling a prostitute for financial gain.
Their sentences were also reduced on appeal: Alam’s to eight years with a five-year extended term, and Watson’s to four years and three months, with her extended sentence being overturned.
The crimes involved kidnapping, violence, threats, blackmail, and theft, all linked to allegations of sexual exploitation and trying to profit from them.
