PETERLEE MAN JAILED FOR STRANGLING PARTNER AND CONTROLLING BEHAVIOUR
A man from County Durham assaulted his terrified partner by strangling her, warning her it would be a "long sleep" before her screams drew the attention of neighbors.Macauley Turner exerted control over her by forcing her to quit her job, preventing her from being around men, threatening violence, and frequently using strangulation as a means of domination.
On New Year’s Day, a dropped 999 call reported her being strangled, which prompted police to visit their home.
Turner argued that she suffered from "complex PTSD" and viewed police intervention as "a betrayal." He faced charges of controlling and coercive behavior as well as intentional strangulation.
Following a trial, he was convicted of these offenses along with stalking and witness intimidation.
He received a prison sentence of 45 months and was subject to a ten-year restraining order.
