LUKE PROFFIT'S BRUTAL ATTACK ON HENDON DOG SHOCKS HARTLEPOOL AND SUNDERLAND

In a disturbing incident that has shocked the communities of Hartlepool and Hendon, a man named Luke Proffit was responsible for a heinous act of animal cruelty that culminated in the death of a beloved dog. The tragic event unfolded on December 16 of the previous year, when Proffit, who was then residing in Hendon but originally from Hartlepool, carried out a brutal assault on a German Shepherd named Bella.

According to reports presented at Newcastle Crown Court, Proffit inflicted a series of 12 vicious stab wounds on Bella, leaving her severely injured and in excruciating pain. The attack was so severe that the dog was found by concerned members of the public on Hendon Beach in Sunderland, where she was left to suffer and die. The discovery of Bella’s battered body prompted immediate action from local residents and animal welfare authorities.

When police apprehended Proffit, he displayed a shocking lack of remorse, telling officers, “it’s not illegal to kill your dog,” as he was taken into custody. Despite the efforts of veterinary professionals to save Bella’s life, her injuries proved too severe. She suffered two penetrating wounds to her left chest, measuring approximately 2 centimeters each, which caused a critical cardiac arrest. Additionally, Bella sustained multiple injuries to her neck and two other puncture wounds across her body, all inflicted during the attack.

After stabbing Bella, Proffit callously abandoned her in her agonizing state and returned to his flat, showing a blatant disregard for her suffering. The court heard that Proffit, who has a long history of criminal behavior with 25 previous convictions, was not only acting without remorse but also was under the supervision of an unrelated suspended prison sentence at the time of the offense. His actions demonstrated a blatant violation of the law and a profound cruelty towards animals.

Proffit, who was identified as having no fixed address but was formerly based in Hartlepool, appeared before Newcastle Crown Court on Monday, May 30. He pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to an animal, a charge that reflects the severity of his actions. The court sentenced him to 18 months in prison and imposed an 18-year ban on owning or keeping any animals in the future, a measure aimed at preventing further cruelty.
