NEWPORT THUG KICKED PREGNANT EX-GIRLFRIEND IN THE STOMACH
A THUG kicked his pregnant ex-girlfriend in the stomach before strangling her during a brutal assault in which she feared she was going to die.Luke Enos, 38, from Newport was high on alcohol and crack cocaine when he attacked her in his home on Thursday, September 11 last year.
During his sentence at Cardiff Crown Court today, it wasn’t revealed, despite a judge asking, what had happened to the woman’s pregnancy since the incident.
The child is Enos’ and it was revealed, after his victim had also been repeatedly punched, the defendant stripped off and masturbated in front of her.
His former partner had visited the defendant to discuss arrangements for their dogs following the end of their three-and-a-half year relationship.
Jac Brown, prosecuting, said: “She was four-and-a-half months pregnant with their child and he was aware she was pregnant.
“The defendant began to drink alcohol and smoke crack cocaine with his behaviour becoming more erratic.
“When the complainant said she was leaving, the defendant became enraged.
Part of the brutal assault against her also included Enos biting her head and dragging her across the floor by her hair.
“She was fearful for her life,” Mr Brown added.
The woman fled to a nearby taxi office where staff called the police and the defendant was arrested.
In a victim impact statement, she addressed the defendant: “Why did you tell me you loved me and treat me like this?” She continued: “He makes me feel sick.
I keep having flashbacks.
“I saw him laughing and joking outside the courtroom during his trial.
“The hurt and pain will never leave me.” Enos, of Victoria Crescent, Newport was found guilty following a trial of intentional strangulation and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
His barrister Hywel Davies said that his client had made the mistake of using drugs as a way of “escaping” his mental health difficulties.
Judge Paul Thomas KC told Enos: “This was a horrible thing to do to a woman, let along a pregnant woman.
“She didn’t know if you would stop and would kill her.
“You then humiliated her by masturbating in front of her and then spitting at her.
“This was a merciless and brutal attack.
"She was at your mercy."
