GLASGOW MAN SPARED JAIL FOR NEGLECTING AND ABANDONING DOG IN BLOODIED STATE
A 23-year-old man from Springburn, Logan Smith, has been convicted and sentenced for causing unnecessary suffering to his dog, Juno.He admitted to abandoning Juno on the street wrapped in a blood-stained sheet after the dog had swallowed drugs at his home.
During the court hearing, it was revealed that Smith's "lack of education" contributed to his failure to seek urgent medical help for Juno, who had been injured with a skull fracture, a serious eye injury, and multiple blunt force impacts.
The post-mortem report concluded that the skull fracture was extensive and likely caused by one or multiple blows to her head, which both sides of her head had injuries from.
Medical experts stated that Juno would have survived the initial trauma for 24 to 48 hours but would have experienced significant pain and suffering.
Smith was charged with causing unnecessary suffering and pleaded guilty.
He was spared jail but was banned from keeping animals for ten years.
Additionally, he was placed on an electronic tag for seven months and required to stay indoors from 7 pm to 7 am as an alternative to custody.
The sheriff described the case as "an appalling case" and emphasized the severity of the animal cruelty involved.
