BARNSLEY MAN JAILED FOR LIFE FOR GRANDMOTHER'S MURDER
A 23-year-old man from Junction Street, Barnsley, named Liam Naylor, has been convicted of the murder of Doreen Walker, a woman aged 75.
The fatal attack happened on 2 April at her residence on Birkwood Avenue in Cudworth, South Yorkshire, where Naylor stabbed Mrs.
Walker.
Although he claimed the act was in self-defense, the jury found him guilty of murder at Sheffield Crown Court on a Thursday.
He was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 33 years before being eligible for parole.
Police in South Yorkshire stated that Naylor was acquainted with Mrs.
Walker, as he was friends with her 17-year-old granddaughter.
Naylor had stabbed her on the night of 1 April and returned home with bloodstained clothing, then went out with friends in Barnsley town centre that evening.
Mrs.
Walker’s body was discovered the following afternoon after friends and relatives forced their way into her home.
Naylor was arrested later that evening in Skegness.
