PADIHAM MAN JAILED FOR ASSAULT ON EX-PARTNER CAUSING INJURIES
A man assaulted his former partner, resulting in her suffering significant bruising and a cut lip.
Liam Gill, 39, was present at his ex-partner's home on May 31 with her friend there at the time.
The court heard the victim believed Gill would not behave aggressively due to the presence of her friend, but unfortunately, Gill acted violently.
Recorder Philip Grundy stated: “Sadly, you just couldn’t help yourself,” referencing the assault.
Following the incident, Gill did not appear in court until he surrendered himself on June 20.
It was also revealed that Gill had been in breach of a previous order related to behavior against another former partner, for which he had been sentenced to eight weeks in prison.
His defense lawyer, Cecilia Pritchard, mentioned that Gill had been making "significant progress" while on remand, having become a mentor and teacher in music, with glowing reports.
The judge noted the injuries: extensive bruising to her left cheek and a cut to her lip, and commented on Gill's lack of compassion.
The victim's friend was frightened of Gill and could not tell her until the injuries became obvious.
Gill was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and breach of a non-molestation order.
He was sentenced to a total of 20 months in prison and given a restraining order for five years against his ex-partner.
