BOURNEMOUTH MAN JAILED FOR ALMOST 10 YEARS FOR RAPE
Detectives in Dorset have commended the bravery of a rape survivor whose testimony was crucial in securing justice for her attacker.Liam Christopher Bassett, aged 28 and from Bournemouth, was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court on Thursday, June 25, 2026, after a jury found him guilty of two counts of rape, assault by beating, and two additional charges.
During the trial, the victim, who was acquainted with the defendant, recounted how Bassett had physically assaulted her, including punching her in the face, and had forced himself upon her on multiple occasions when she had refused to engage in sex.
Following her decision to report the abuse to the police, officers continued to support her as detectives gathered evidence, leading to the charges against Bassett.
At the sentencing, he received a prison term of nine years and nine months.
Detective Constable Rose Pratt of BCP CID commented: “I truly respect the courage it took for the victim to come forward and report the abuse by Liam Bassett, and to continue cooperating with the investigation and trial.
“Her bravery and testimony have resulted in her attacker being imprisoned.
I hope her case encourages other victims of rape and violence to report their experiences, knowing they will be supported and justice will be sought.”
