LEWIS VANMEER FROM MILTON KEYNES SENTENCED FOR RAPE IN NORTHAMPTON

In the early hours of January 14, 2022, Lewis Vanmeer, a 29-year-old man previously residing on Sulman Grove in Milton Keynes, committed a serious criminal act that would lead to his eventual imprisonment. On that night, Vanmeer had agreed to give a female acquaintance a lift home after they had spent the evening out. However, what was intended to be a simple act of kindness took a dark turn.

Instead of heading directly to her residence, Vanmeer deliberately diverted the vehicle to a secluded car park located on Rushmere Road in Northampton. It was there that he made unwelcome sexual advances towards the woman, who clearly rejected his overtures. Despite her protests and refusal, Vanmeer-Sheridan persisted, and the situation escalated into a violent assault. He forcibly raped her in the back of the vehicle, an act that would have profound consequences for both the victim and the perpetrator.

Following the assault, the woman reported the incident promptly to Northamptonshire Police. An investigation was swiftly launched, leading to Vanmeer-Sheridan's arrest shortly thereafter. The case moved through the legal system, and he was formally charged with the crime of rape. The trial took place at Northampton Crown Court, where Vanmeer-Sheridan was found guilty of the offence on January 11, 2023.

The very next day, he returned to the same court to be sentenced for his crime. The judge handed down a substantial prison term, sentencing Vanmeer-Sheridan to eight years and four months behind bars. This case underscores the serious consequences of violent sexual assault and highlights the importance of justice for victims of such heinous acts.
