CHILD SEX OFFENDER FAILED TO TELL POLICE HE WAS LIVING WITH CHILDREN
A child sex offender based in Birmingham has been sentenced to prison after failing to inform authorities that he was residing in a property with children present.Lewis Rylatt managed to stay one step ahead of law enforcement officials for some time, but he has now been re-incarcerated.
The 22-year-old escaped from the East Midlands to Birmingham before being detained at a railway station in the Midlands.
Judge Shaun Smith QC remarked, "You won't tell anybody where you live and you are living with people who have children.
"You know you can't do that and you lie and lie.
"You are putting children at risk and you are somebody who poses a considerable risk because of the fact that you won't comply (with court orders).
"Nobody knows where you are and nobody knows what you have done because you won't tell them.
"At the moment you have no intention of adhering to these orders.
Every effort is being made to support you but you refuse to engage and the court has a duty to protect the public." Prosecutor Noel Philo explained that Rylatt was given a three-year community order in November 2018 following offenses involving an underage girl.
As part of this sentence, he was registered as a sex offender and issued a sexual harm prevention order.
Mr Philo clarified that Rylatt was required to notify the police of his residence and was prohibited from living at addresses where children may be present.
Despite previous violations, which led to a 17-month jail sentence in October 2019, the defendant has re-breached these conditions after being released early, leading to his latest incarceration.
