BRUTAL NEWPORT MAN JAILED FOR LIFE FOR MURDERING HIS MUM
Lewis Bush, aged 26 and a resident of Moorland Park in Newport, has been found guilty of murdering his mother, Kelly Pitt, aged 44, during a violent assault at her residence. The court heard that Bush carried out a 'ferocious and sustained' attack before fleeing the scene.
Police discovered Ms Pitt on 12 May at Sandalwood Court, covered in blood and bearing injuries indicative of significant blunt-force trauma to her head, neck, and torso.
An autopsy confirmed she had suffered internal bleeding, 41 fractured ribs, and wounds inflicted by mirror glass and hair.
Witnesses described her as a 'kind and bubbly' individual who was caring towards others.
Although Bush initially denied the murder charge, he later changed his plea ahead of the scheduled October trial.
He was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 16 years before he becomes eligible for parole.
The investigation revealed that Bush had a history of domestic violence directed at his mother and sister, and he had previously been on bail for earlier assaults that he disregarded.
CCTV footage placed him at an ATM and purchasing alcohol following the attack, and neighbours had contacted police beforehand.
The judge acknowledged the tragedy, emphasizing that 'Kelly Pitt’s life ending as it did is a wrong that no sentence will undo.'
