MAN WHO RAPED, STRANGLED AND KICKED WOMAN DOWN THE STAIRS AMID "TERRIFYING" ABUSE JAILED AT PORTSMOUTH COURT
On December 23, Levi Slack-Smith, aged 21, received a jail sentence after being convicted of multiple violent crimes.The investigation revealed that he had intentionally kept his victim away from her friends before increasingly abusive actions.
Residing in Thorndike Close, Southampton, Slack-Smith threatened to distribute explicit photos of her to others, verbally abused her with derogatory comments, and physically assaulted her, despite her efforts to terminate their relationship.
The court heard that the defendant physically attacked the woman on various occasions, including hitting, kicking, and strangling her to the point of unconsciousness.
He also raped her multiple times.
He was convicted of four counts of rape and five of assault causing actual bodily harm.
Furthermore, he pleaded guilty to transmitting malicious communications and threatening to expose private sexual images.
His possessiveness and controlling behaviour were apparent; he disliked her leaving without him and blamed her for his actions.
After an incident where he kicked her down the stairs, he reportedly told her, “I don’t know why you do this to me.” In a victim impact statement read in court, the woman detailed her trauma, saying, “Levi’s behaviour and words demonstrate a profound lack of respect for women and others.
He raped me, assaulted me, spat at me, and degraded me in every possible way.
His actions were aimed at destroying my life.
“Since the court proceedings, I have felt relieved that he was found guilty and remanded into custody.
I have begun going out alone again and have returned to college to follow my ambitions, hoping to fulfill my dreams someday.
“I want to thank all those who supported me, especially my ISVA (independent sexual violence advisor), who was instrumental in helping me.
I also appreciate the police officers—they may have taken some time, but we achieved justice, and I’m grateful.” In addition, Slack-Smith was sentenced for a dangerous driving incident when police stopped him in a vehicle with cloned plates near his home.
The pursuit reached speeds of approximately 60mph, and he was taken into custody on February 13.
His overall sentence totals ten years and five months imprisonment.
