SOUTHAMPTON 27-YEAR-OLD JAILED AFTER RAPING YOUNG GIRL
A Southampton man has been jailed after being found guilty of historic sexual offences against a young girl.Cetin, 27, of New Road, was convicted of two counts of rape of a girl under 13 and one count of sexual assault following a trial at Southampton Crown Court on Friday, September 12.
He was sentenced at the same court on Friday, October 24, to two years and six months in prison.
The court heard that Cetin’s offences took place between 2011 and 2017 in the Romsey area against a girl known to him.
These incidents were reported to police in March 2021, prompting a detailed investigation.
As well as a prison term, Cetin was handed a seven-year sexual harm prevention order and a lifetime restraining order.
He has also been placed on the sex offenders register for life.
Following the sentencing, detective constable Iain Howard praised the victim for her courage throughout the case.
He said: "The victim in this case has had to live with the memory of Cetin’s awful offending for some time.
I would like to commend her for the bravery and patience she has shown through the investigation and court process." Encouraging other victims of sexual abuse to come forward, he added: "We want to encourage anyone who has been affected by child sexual abuse to come forward, regardless of when the offence took place.
You can contact police on 101 and speak to an officer in confidence." "We also recognise that not everyone has the confidence to talk to police about what they have experienced.
There are other support services available, which means you will be in control of who you talk to and what help you can get." Police continue to urge anyone with concerns or information about child sexual abuse to reach out for support, whether through law enforcement or independent agencies.
