A man from Coventry has received a prison sentence for raping a woman while she was asleep.
Leslie Mangwa was convicted and sentenced today following an assault that took place in January of the previous year.
The incident occurred when the woman was sleeping after a night out, and she awoke to find Mangwa engaging in sexual activity with her.
She immediately screamed, prompting him to leave her room.
Soon after the assault, the woman reported the assault to the police.
Her courage in coming forward enabled law enforcement to identify and arrest Mangwa, aged 33.
During questioning, Mangwa denied the allegations, claiming that the encounter was consensual.
Nonetheless, he was found guilty of rape in a trial held on August 4, and a sentence was handed down on August 29.
Leslie Mangwa, who resides in William Hillman Court, was sentenced to eight years in prison.
He was also issued a restraining order and a Sexual Harm Prevention Order as part of his sentence.
