LESLEY LOW SHOCKS GIRVAN AND GLASGOW WITH HORRIFIC SEXUAL ABUSE CASE

In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the communities of Girvan and Glasgow, Leslie Low, a 59-year-old man, was sentenced to six years in prison at the High Court in Glasgow for a series of heinous crimes involving the sexual abuse of young children.

Low, who resides on Dumbarton Road in the Yoker area of Glasgow, was found guilty of repeatedly assaulting a nine-year-old boy over an eight-year period, beginning in 1997 and continuing until 2003. The court heard that during these years, Low would physically and sexually abuse the young victim, often grabbing him by the throat and threatening him to keep silent. One of the court's testimonies revealed that Low would whisper to the boy, saying, “Ssshh, it’ll be alright,” as he committed these acts.

The court also learned that Low attempted to commit a similar act against a six-year-old girl in Girvan, South Ayrshire. The details of this attempted rape added to the severity of his crimes. Both victims, who are now adults, have endured long-lasting trauma from the abuse inflicted upon them during their childhoods. The young man, now in his twenties, testified that he felt utterly helpless during the years of abuse, which took place in both Glasgow and Girvan.

Leslie Low did not only sexually assault the boy but also physically assaulted him by punching and kicking him in the head and body, further demonstrating his violent and predatory nature. When questioned by police about the extent of the abuse, the victim responded that the number of incidents was “too many to count,” highlighting the relentless nature of Low’s predation.

In addition to the sexual assaults, Low admitted to the court that he had assaulted the young boy physically. His guilty plea also included the attempted rape of the young girl in Girvan, a crime that added to the gravity of his sentencing.

Judge Sean Murphy QC, addressing Low during the sentencing, condemned his actions as “appalling and despicable.” The judge emphasized that Low’s crimes were committed for his own sexual gratification, describing his treatment of the victims as “cruel and degrading.” The judge also pointed out that Low had abused a young girl on one occasion, further illustrating the extent of his depravity.

As Low was led away to serve his sentence, the court’s verdict served as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of child abuse and the importance of justice for victims who have suffered in silence for years.
