DEMI LAURIE FROM GLASGOW GUILTY OF CHILD ASSAULT IN EAST END FLAT
A woman named Demi Laurie, aged 28, has been found guilty of physically assaulting a four-month-old infant under her care in a flat located in Glasgow's east end. The court proceedings revealed disturbing details about the incident, which have shocked the local community and raised serious concerns about child safety.According to the evidence presented during the trial, Laurie was responsible for causing injury to the baby by grabbing or twisting the child's arm. The injury was described as severe, with medical reports confirming that the infant sustained a fractured elbow. It was further established that the injury likely occurred within the 48 hours prior to the hospital visit. Despite noticing the injury, Laurie did not seek immediate medical help. Instead, she waited for approximately five hours before taking the baby to the hospital. During this delay, she reportedly went to her aunt’s house to wait for a parcel and ignored multiple phone calls from her general practitioner, claiming she had no signal at the time.
Prosecutor Ryan Watson highlighted that the injury was caused by twisting, which was probably inflicted by an adult, and emphasized Laurie’s indifferent attitude when questioned about the injury. Witnesses described her demeanor as 'p****d off,' indicating a lack of concern or remorse. The court also heard from a man who had seen the baby the day before the incident. He described the infant as 'usual bubbly,' and expressed his distress upon seeing the injured child, calling it 'heart destroying.'
Following the evidence, the court convicted Laurie of the assault. She was granted bail while background checks and reports were ordered to assess her circumstances further. The sentencing was deferred, with Sheriff Louise Arrol KC stating that 'these are significant matters,' underscoring the gravity of the case. The final sentencing will be determined at a later date, depending on the outcome of the ongoing assessments and reports.
