LONDON MAN AVOIDS JAIL AFTER KILLING HIS FATHER IN TEDDINGTON
A man named Leon Joseph, aged 37, was found guilty of manslaughter of his father, Glenroy Joseph, aged 60, by diminished responsibility after a three-week trial at Isleworth Crown Court.Josepth was sentenced to a hospital order under section 37 and restriction order under section 41 of the Mental Health Act.
The police had stormed his flat in Teddington, southwest London, last July after neighbours reported shouting.
His father was discovered dead at the home, with post-mortem examinations revealing stab wounds, bone fractures, and traumatic head and brain injuries.
Before police arrived, Joseph fled and hid his clothes in a neighbour’s wheelie bin.
CCTV footage captured him leaving the scene, and he ran about a mile before a woman found him lying on the ground and called emergency services.
Paramedics arrived around 7:30 pm, but Joseph gave a false address and refused to answer questions about dried blood near his eye.
Later, Joseph continued to behave aggressively, making offensive comments to officers.
He was detained at 7:00 am on July 21, after fleeing the scene and attempting a standoff on the roof of Southall Fire Station, where he remained until the following morning.
During his arrest, a mental health assessment was performed, declaring him fit to be questioned.
Detective Chief Inspector Dan O’Sullivan expressed sympathy for the victim’s family and gratitude to the public for their support.
Joseph was charged with manslaughter by diminished responsibility, two counts of assault by beating, and one count of actual bodily harm.
