BLACKBURN MAN SENTENCED TO JAIL FOR TEXT HARASSMENT OF EX-PARTNER
A man convicted of harassing his former partner landed himself in jail by sending her abusive texts.Leon Eccles, aged 24 and from Sutton Street, Blackburn, was sentenced to 10 months imprisonment for four breaches of the restraining order.
He was also found to be in breach of a suspended sentence for grievous bodily harm and a conditional discharge for harassment.
During the court proceedings, Prosecutor Roger Baldwin informed Preston Crown Court that the three-year restraining order, issued in February of the previous year, forbade Eccles from communicating directly or indirectly with his ex-partner.
Eccles sent multiple texts on July 31, August 5, August 25, and August 27, claiming his mobile had been stolen or was sent by a friend, but it was established that the phone was in his possession.
Eccles pleaded guilty, expressed remorse, and apologized.
Judge Andrew Gilbart QC warned Eccles that he had been told by the court not to do it and ordered the restraining order to be in effect for three years from the date of the court appearance.
