EAST KILBRIDE PREDATOR JAILED FOR REPEATED SEXUAL ASSAULTS ON MINORS
Lennox McGhee, now aged 19, has been convicted and sentenced to a jail term after raping a 15-year-old girl in woodland near East Kilbride in 2022.It has been revealed that McGhee sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl in 2020, but the case did not proceed to court due to a diversion from prosecution.
The mother of the 15-year-old victim expressed her anger, stating, "We’re furious.
If he had been given the same jail sentence the first time around he wouldn’t have been free to attack my daughter.
A system that allows rapists to avoid going to court and offers them things like therapy is disgraceful." McGhee was 15 at the time of the 2020 assault, which involved pushing the girl to the ground, restraining her, and repeatedly performing sexual acts without her consent.
The court heard that the 2020 incident was listed on the case docket for the 2022 attack, leading to evidence being introduced during trial.
Despite denying the rape and claiming to be 'fed up' with the girl, McGhee showed no remorse or understanding of the impact.
He was sentenced at Glasgow High Court to four years and eight months, and is now on the sex offenders register indefinitely, with a ban from contacting the victim for eight years.
The judge, Lord Cubie, emphasized that McGhee was aware of issues concerning consent and criminal law, yet he exploited the 15-year-old victim.
The mother advocated for harsher penalties, criticizing the justice system's handling of such cases, especially under the diversion guidelines for minors.
The Crown Office condemned his actions and highlighted ongoing efforts to improve prosecutorial approaches for juvenile sexual offenders.
