LEIGH DAVIES AND SHOCKING CHILD SEX ABUSE IMAGES IN PORT TALBOT
Leigh Davies, a 66-year-old man from Port Talbot, has been sentenced to prison after being found guilty of possessing and distributing indecent images of children, amid disturbing details uncovered during court proceedings. The case revealed the extent of his involvement in viewing and sharing child exploitation material, as well as engaging in sexual conversations related to minors.
The investigation into Davies' activities was sparked by police actions on November 24, 2021, when officers executed a search warrant at his residence in Port Talbot, specifically at Fenbrook Close, Baglan.
This warrant was part of an ongoing probe into the possession and dissemination of illegal sexual content involving minors.
During the search, law enforcement officials seized a significant collection of electronic devices, including multiple smartphones and other digital storage media.
In his initial interview with officers, Davies admitted to being active on platforms like Kik and Snapchat and stated, “I'm on Kik and Snapchat and get sent all sorts of stuff,” suggesting that he was regularly exposed to a wide array of illicit material.
A forensic analysis of the seized devices uncovered a grisly trove of 244 indecent images on Davies’ iPhone.
Among these, 166 were classified as Category A images, depicting the most severe forms of sexual abuse against children.
Alarmingly, numerous images within this category showed young girls who appeared to be in obvious pain and distress, highlighting the disturbing nature of the content stored on his device.
Further scrutiny revealed that Davies had shared approximately 20 images with contacts on the Kik messaging app and engaged in sexual conversations directed at minors or about minors.
His internet browsing history also raised concern, as he had conducted searches using terms like “young boys,” indicating an interest that spanned a range of ages.
The graphic content involved children estimated to be as young as three years old, extending up to children in early adolescence.
The investigators also discovered over 220 images categorized as extreme pornography, adding to the severity of his offenses.
It was noted that there was an additional large cache—over 1,200 files—related to the Kik app which had not been accessible during a manual review, indicating that Davies had likely deleted specific images or entire chat threads to conceal his activities.
Leigh Davies, with a residential address listed as Fenbrook Close, Baglan, Port Talbot, previously admitted to possessing indecent images across Categories A, B, and C, as well as distributing such material during his court appearance.
He had no prior criminal convictions, making his offenses all the more grave.
Representing Davies in court, solicitor Giles Hayes painted a complex picture of the defendant’s personal life.
Despite maintaining a long-term marriage, Hayes revealed that Davies was emotionally detached from his wife.
He explained that Davies had developed a habit of viewing certain pornography as a coping mechanism during a stressful period, which had regrettably evolved into unlawful interests.
The defense attorney emphasized that Davies was a hardworking family man, and suggested that the offending behaviors coincided with the COVID-19 lockdown when Davies was particularly worried about his employment prospects.
Additionally, a letter from a church where Davies had been a longstanding member was presented; however, since his arrest, he had withdrawn from attending religious services.
Judge Catherine Richards addressed the court, describing how Davies’ illegal activities spanned approximately 16 months.
The judge detailed his involvement in not only possessing and viewing child abuse images but also actively distributing them and engaging with other like-minded individuals in sexual conversations about children.
Recognizing his guilty pleas, the court applied a one-third reduction to his sentence, resulting in a custodial term of 26 months.
Under the terms of his sentence, Davies is expected to serve up to half that sentence in custody before being released on license.
Additionally, he will be subject to a 10-year registration as a sex offender and will be subject to a sexual harm prevention order restricting his internet access for the same duration, aimed at preventing further offending.
