BLACKBURN MAN CONVICTED OF RAPE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT
A Darwen man named Lee Barr, aged 27, has been convicted of raping a woman at a house in Blackburn.
He was found guilty by a jury at Preston Crown Court last week of rape and sexual assault.
Barr, who has no fixed address but was previously residing on Tythebarn Street, Darwen, has been placed on the sex offenders register for life and is remanded in custody to be sentenced on August 16, 2024.
During the incident, police reported that Barr bit and strangled his victim while raping her.
Lancashire Police noted: "She was understandably terrified of Barr but showed incredible bravery and strength by telling us what he had done." In May 2022, Barr was sentenced to two years in prison for assaulting neighbors of his ex-girlfriend, despite being under a restraining order due to an attack on her in July 2021.
His criminal record includes seven assault charges, some committed during his youth.
Police encourage victims of sexual offenses to report the crimes either online or via emergency calls if in progress.
