LEE ANGOVE SENTENCED AT TRURO CROWN COURT FOR STRANGULATION
Lee Angove, aged 48, who gave his address as Turnpike Road, Connor Downs near Hayle had already pleaded guilty to assault by beating and intentional strangulation of his partner when he appeared at Truro Crown Court for sentencing on Thursday. The court heard that between June 30 and August 1, 2022 there was a family barbecue at the home of Angove and the complainant.
He was under the influence of alcohol when there was a dispute over a bottle of alcohol, during which he pushed and shoved her before punching her twice in the chest causing her to fall onto the bottom of the stairwell.
The prosecution said she went upstairs, confronted him about the incident, and he then grabbed her throat with his right hand, squeezing hard.
He forced her back to the bathroom window, holding her by her throat with her head out of the window, leaving her scared he might push her out.
Their child shouted 'stop,' and Angove then threw her to the ground, hitting the bathtub.
Another incident in October 2022 involved Angove making negative remarks about her appearance, throwing a packet of crisps at her, and pushing her down again, witnessed by their child.
The woman described feeling like a shadow of her former self, more timid, introverted, and feeling worthless, believing his negative words.
She lost contact with friends and family due to him and felt nervous and anxious in her own home, especially when he was drunk.
Angove’s defence expressed remorse and shame, and he accepted that his actions were very wrong.
He has been a chef for over 30 years.
Sentencing included a 24-month community order, mental health treatment, alcohol treatment, relationship skills training, and 100 hours of unpaid work.
A restraining order was imposed, and he was ordered to pay £300 in prosecution costs.
