HAYLE MAN JAILED FOR RELENTLESS STALKING CAMPAIGN
A woman who was targeted by a stalker claims she has 'lost her sense of self' due to the persistent harassment inflicted by her former partner.Christopher Watson, aged 50 and residing on Albertus Road in Hayle, refused to accept that their relationship had ended.
Over several months, he followed her, lingered around her workplace, inundated her with messages, and drove behind her vehicle.
Watson faced Truro Crown Court for sentencing in November 2023 after being convicted of stalking from March to June of that year, following a trial.
His guilt was established through evidence of repeated harassment post-breakup.
The court was told Watson defied her clear wishes for no contact and continued his stalking behaviors.
The victim recounted how Watson's actions had 'devastated' her life, leaving her feeling constantly anxious and fearful.
She explained that her mental health had been affected and she felt as though she was under constant surveillance.
His conduct involved tailing her car, sending hundreds of social media and text messages, and showing up unannounced at her home and workplace.
Despite warnings to cease, he persisted, prompting police to intervene.
During sentencing, the court emphasized the gravity of Watson’s offending and the harmful effects on his victim.
His conduct was described as 'outrageous' and 'a complete misery' for her.
He was sentenced to 30 months in prison for stalking and breaching restraining orders, along with a 10-year restraining order to bar contact.
The court also noted Watson’s previous convictions for similar offenses and recognized his long-term pattern of obsessive behavior and inability to accept the end of their relationship.
