LAWRENCE BREW SENTENCED IN KINGSTON FOR DECADES-OLD CHILD SEX OFFENCES IN MALDEN

In a significant case that has spanned over two decades, Lawrence Guy Brew, aged 65, of St James’ Close, New Malden, was formally sentenced to eight years in prison during a hearing at Kingston Crown Court on Wednesday, July 5.

The court's decision came after Brew admitted to a series of serious sexual offences committed in the late 1990s and early 2000s, which had only recently come to light.

Earlier in January 2023, Brew had pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including two counts of indecent assault on a male under the age of 13, and seven counts of indecent assault on a male under 16.

Additionally, he admitted to possessing indecent images of children on three separate occasions.

A further charge related to paying for sexual services from a boy, involving a different victim, was left on file, meaning it was not actively pursued but remains part of the case record.

Following his conviction, Brew was also subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, a legal measure designed to restrict his activities and protect the public from potential future harm.

Moreover, he will be required to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities.

The investigation into Brew’s past offences was initiated after a man came forward in December 2018, reporting a series of historic sexual abuse he endured as a child.

The victim disclosed that Brew, who knew his family, had committed these acts over a period of several years, specifically between 1998 and 2003, when he was a minor.

Authorities meticulously gathered evidence, including interviews with individuals who knew Brew during the time of the offences.

Brew was subsequently arrested, during which he denied all allegations.

As part of the investigation, police seized electronic devices from Brew’s residence, which were found to contain hundreds of indecent images of children, further implicating him in the offences.

Following the evidence collection, Brew faced charges in court and ultimately pleaded guilty to multiple counts of sexual misconduct and possession of indecent images.

His guilty plea and the evidence presented led to his eight-year imprisonment, marking a significant step in addressing historic child abuse cases in the Kingston and New Malden areas.
