CHARLES BOSWELL SENTENCED TO 13 YEARS FOR RAPE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT IN WATFORD
In a significant case that has drawn considerable attention, Charles Boswell, aged 57, from Meredith Street, Nelson, Lancashire, has been handed a lengthy prison sentence following his conviction for serious sexual offences committed in Watford. The offences involved the sexual assault and rape of a girl under the age of 16, with the incidents spanning a period from June 1990 to August 1992.
These disturbing events came to light after a thorough investigation conducted by the Sexual Offences Investigation Team of Hertfordshire Constabulary.
The investigation led to Boswell being formally charged in October 2021 with four counts of indecent assault and three counts of rape.
The charges stemmed from allegations that he had assaulted a young girl during the early 1990s, a period when she was under the age of 16.
Initially, Boswell entered a plea of not guilty to all charges during his first court appearance in 2021.
However, the case took a pivotal turn during the trial proceedings.
On June 22, 2023, during the second day of his trial at St Albans Crown Court, Boswell changed his plea and admitted guilt to all seven counts against him.
This plea change marked a significant development in the case, reflecting his acknowledgment of the allegations.
Following his guilty plea, Boswell was sentenced on the same day to a term of 13 years in prison.
The court also imposed a two-year extended licence period, which means he will be subject to supervision and restrictions even after serving his prison sentence.
Legally, he is required to serve at least two-thirds of his sentence before he can apply for parole, ensuring a substantial period of incarceration.
In addition to his imprisonment, the court issued a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, which aims to protect the public and prevent further offences.
A restraining order was also put in place, prohibiting Boswell from making any contact with the victim until further notice.
To ensure ongoing monitoring and public safety, Boswell has been placed on the sex offenders’ register for life, marking him as a convicted sex offender with lifelong restrictions and obligations.
