LAURENCE TYLER FROM KENILWORTH JAILED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES INVOLVING 15-YEAR-OLD GIRL
Laurence Tyler, a 42-year-old man residing on Dudley Road in Kenilworth, has been sentenced to three years in prison following his conviction for engaging in sexual activities with a minor. The court also mandated that Tyler register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life and imposed a ban on him working with children, reflecting the severity of his crimes.Tyler had previously pleaded guilty at Warwick Crown Court to four separate charges related to sexual activity with a girl under the age of 16, with the incidents occurring in May and June of the same year. The case drew significant attention due to the nature of the offenses and the defendant’s breach of bail conditions.
According to the prosecution, Neil Banister, the police had been actively searching for a 15-year-old girl from the Kenilworth area who had gone missing from her home. During their investigation, authorities suspected that she might be at Tyler’s residence. When police officers arrived at his home, they discovered the girl there, with visible love bite marks on her neck. The girl was immediately taken into custody by the police, and during her interview, she confirmed that Tyler was responsible for causing the love bites.
In his police statement, Tyler claimed that the girl had called him asking to visit his home. He admitted to giving her the love bites, claiming it was during a playful fight and acknowledged that he was aware she was only 15 years old. Despite this, Tyler was granted bail under the condition that he had no contact with the girl. However, this restriction was flagrantly violated.
Just a few days after being released on bail, a relative of the girl noticed her talking to Tyler outside his residence. Subsequently, in June, the girl arranged to meet Tyler at his house after sneaking out of her home. The court was informed that the two engaged in sexual intercourse during this meeting. The following night, they met again, and similar activities took place. The girl’s family grew increasingly suspicious of her interactions with Tyler, and when questioned, she eventually admitted to her relationship with him.
During the court proceedings, Gerard Quirke, representing Tyler, argued that the defendant was involved in an inappropriate relationship with a girl who was close to the age of consent but not yet there. Despite this, the judge, Trevor Faber, emphasized the breach of bail conditions, stating, “It was then a condition of your bail that you should have no contact with her, and you breached that in the grossest manner possible.”
Ultimately, Tyler was sentenced to three years in prison, with additional orders for lifelong sex offender registration and restrictions on working with children, underscoring the court’s stance on protecting minors from such predatory behavior.
