Guy Simmonds, an equestrian leader aged 37, and fellow rider Lauren Jarvis, aged 26, conspired to participate in a threesome involving an underage girl.
Subsequently, the two agreed to remain silent about their illegal sexual encounter with the schoolgirl after riding lessons.
At the court, it was revealed that both Simmonds and Jarvis had no doubt the girl was under 16 at the time of the incident and had committed to hiding what happened.
Prosecutor James Hartson stated that Simmonds was aware of the girl’s age, as she explicitly mentioned it in early messages.
He added that neither of them cared about her age when planning or engaging in the sexual activity, and that they had reached a mutual agreement of secrecy upon realising she was discussing the event.
The court heard that Simmonds, during conversations, boasted of being a "top showjumper" when he targeted the girl on Facebook.
Evidence was presented indicating a grooming process by Simmonds before the incident took place at Jarvis’s home in January of the previous year.
One message read aloud in court showed the girl asking Simmonds what he would make her do, to which he responded that she and Jarvis would do what he says, calling it "fun." Additionally, Simmonds sent a message to Jarvis suggesting they cover up the event, saying, "Hey, I have a feeling that she has said about us.
If anyone asks for sake of both of us nothing ever happened that night xx." Jarvis responded with concern about the girl revealing their plans, expressing worry about her potentially making their lives difficult.
The court also heard that Simmonds told police during an interview that he had not engaged in sexual contact with the girl, yet he later made calls from prison to his mother instructing her to pay her family £50,000 to drop the charges.
He instructed her to give the money, stating, "There is £20,000 in my account.
Just f***ing give it to them.
I don't care.
£20,000 now and then £10,000 a year for three years." and suggested additional payments over three years.
Simmonds claimed that he had received permission to be with the girl from his partner, Rebecca Dimes, provided she didn't want to know details.
Jarvis described messages about the threesome as "banter and a wind-up." Both Simmonds, from Undy, and Jarvis, from Newport, were convicted by a jury of engaging in sexual activity with a minor.
Simmonds, however, was acquitted on five related charges concerning the same victim.
