WOMAN SENTENCED FOR NEGLECTING THREE CHILDREN IN CROSSGATES
A woman admitted neglecting and abandoning three children, leaving them without adequate food or clean clothing.
This took place between 1 October 2022, and 30 January 2023 in Crossgates.
The court heard that Laura Thomson, 48, repeatedly left the youngsters, who were aged between 7 and 11, without supervision, adequate food, or clean clothing.
On one occasion, a headteacher noticed that one of the children had come to school wearing shoes that were two sizes too big for them, and that they did not have any pants on.
During interviews by social workers, children described a 'mice infestation' in the house and stated that Thomson would 'leave them for days at a time and this had been happening for several months.' Defence solicitor Chris Sneddon mentioned that Thomson was suffering from ill health during the offense and had no previous convictions.
The court, at Dunfermline Sheriff Court, recognized the seriousness of the charges and sentenced Thomson to 150 hours of unpaid work, to be completed in 12 months, noting her age and health problems as mitigating factors.
