MAN WHO THREATENED PARTNER AND BREACHED BAIL AFTER HOGMANAY DRINKING SPREE
A man from Hill of Beath, named Gary Edward, aged 46, who had consumed excessive alcohol during Hogmanay, became involved in a serious incident involving threats and assault.According to court reports, Edward threatened his former partner and breached bail conditions by contacting her repeatedly between January 25 and February 13 at an address in Crossgates.
On the night of Hogmanay, Edward was at his ex-partner's house in Crossgates, where, after drinking, he became angry and verbally aggressive.
He asked if her friends and family disliked him, which escalated into shouting and threatening behavior.
The complainant's children overheard Edward stating, "I am going to kill you," which led to police involvement.
Despite being granted bail on January 2 with strict conditions not to contact his ex-partner, Edward violated these conditions by email on multiple occasions.
Court proceedings revealed that Edward sent an apology email on January 7, expressing his feelings for the children and requesting to collect his belongings.
He sent another email on February 12, asking if someone could pick up his belongings.
His defense argued that these messages were an attempt to pass on well-wishes as his relationship had ended and alcohol intoxication contributed to the incident.
Sheriff Pino Di Emidio acknowledged that excessive drinking on New Year’s day led to serious consequences.
Edward was sentenced to a community payback order, including 180 hours of unpaid work, instead of incarceration.
