'COERCIVE' COVENTRY WOMAN JAILED FOR LIFE FOR MURDER OF MAN
A woman accused of controlling a man through coercive behavior, leading to his stabbing death, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for his murder.
Alfred James Corbett, known as Jamie, was discovered with serious injuries at a property in Coventry during the early hours of September 17, 2024, and he died at the scene.
According to the court, after stabbing her victim, 36-year-old Laura Shanley knelt beside him and exclaimed, "what have I done?" She also inquired of another woman inside the house if she would lie to the police, asking, "have you got my back?" Shanley admitted to stabbing Mr.
Corbett and was convicted of murder.
Her family indicated they believed he had been subjected to coercive control and violence in the period leading up to his death.
They expressed their sorrow and hoped her lengthy prison sentence would stop her from harming anyone else in the future.
Before the incident on Edmund Road, Shanley had been out drinking with friends.
She initially told officers that Mr.
Corbett had come home bleeding from an earlier stabbing incident.
Her arrest followed the discovery of a knife in the kitchen sink.
