NEWPORT MAN SENTENCED FOR REPEATED DOMESTIC ABUSE AND ASSAULT
A man named Laszlo Magasparti, 41, from Newport, has been involved in multiple instances of violent domestic abuse against his partner over a three-year relationship.The court heard that he repeatedly assaulted her, including headbutting her and slapping her until her nose bled, leaving her with nightmares and emotional trauma.
The first incident involved him slapping her across the face several times and holding her by the throat following an argument.
On another occasion, at a friend's house, he wrapped his arms around her in a "bear hug" that included her neck, making her unable to escape, before hitting her in the ribs and headbutting her, connecting with her nose.
During the police arrest, he denied the offences, claiming he only pushed her, despite evidence of bruising on his knuckles.
He later pleaded guilty to multiple charges including assault occasioning actual bodily harm, assault by beating, and criminal damage.
The victim provided a personal statement indicating ongoing trauma, nightmares, and the desire to move on with her life.
The court noted a significant pattern of domestic abuse, with the defendant having prior convictions for harassment and breach of a restraining order.
As part of his sentence, Magasparti received a suspended 40-week prison term, and was ordered to undertake unpaid work, attend a rehabilitation program, and participate in sessions of the Building Better Relationships programme.
